Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River, is renowned for its **massive elephant herds** and photogenic landscapes. Covering a portion of the larger Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem (~35,000 km²), the park features sprawling savannahs, riverine woodlands, and iconic **Baobab trees**. Visitors encounter diverse wildlife, from elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes to over 550 bird species, including migratory and resident species.

The park’s varied vegetation types include Acacia parklands, Combretum woodlands, riverine grasslands, seasonal floodplains, and rocky hilltop kopjes. These diverse habitats provide refuge during the dry season for migratory animals in the Tarangire-Maasai Steppe ecosystem. Birdwatchers will delight in open woodlands, wetlands like Silale Swamp, and floodplains teeming with rich avian life.

Weather & Climate

Tarangire has a tropical savanna climate. **Long rains:** March–May; **Short rains:** Oct–Dec. The dry seasons (June–Oct & Jan–Feb) offer the best wildlife viewing. Temperatures range from 20°C to 30°C, with cooler mornings and evenings in the dry season. Visitors should bring light clothing, sun protection, and comfortable shoes for game drives.
