KILIMANJARO & SAFARI GEAR CHECKLIST
We recommended that all clothing (and anything you do not want to get wet) be packed in waterproof sacks or plastic.
It is ideal to pack your Kilimanjaro trekking gear in a duffel bag close to these dimensions: 30x14x14 inches, around 33 pounds (15kg).
FOOTWEAR
* Tennis/camp shoes to wear around the camp
* Hiking boots: 1 pair with socks layered comfortably. Boots should be waterproof.
* Gaiters: To keep rocks out of boots
* Wool or pile socks: 1 pair per hiking day, smooth synthetic next to the skin.
CLOTHING
* Lightweight long underwear tops and bottoms
* Fleece/synthetic jacket
* Insulating pants
* Down or synthetic jacket
* Waterproof shell jacket & pants
* Synthetic shirts and T-shirts, shorts, trekking pants, underwear
HANDWEAR
* Light synthetic gloves (2 pairs)
* Mitts with shell protection (1 pair)
HEADWEAR
* Balaclava, warm hat, sun hat, bandana, glacier glasses
TOILETRIES
* Biodegradable shampoo, soap, lip balm, deodorant, toothbrush, wet wipes, lotion, feminine hygiene, nail clipper
FIRST AID KIT
* Blister bandages, small bandages, elastic bandage, safety pins, antiseptic wipes, talcum powder, sunscreen, insect repellent
MEDICINES
* Anti-allergy, antibiotics, antacids, anti-diarrhea, anti-emetics, anti-vertigo, altitude illness medicine, prescription medicines
CLIMBING & CAMPING EQUIPMENT
* Duffel bag, day pack, rain cover, sleeping bag (0°F/ -18°C), sleeping pad, trekking poles, headlamp, water bottles, purification tablets
CAMERA EQUIPMENT
* Protect cameras from cold; use warm pouches or interior pockets
